I went to jail one Sunday and and saw a baby; literally and figuratively speaking. When the ladies from the county jail filed in for “Sunday school” I immediately noticed her. She reminded me of one of my own children. Long dark hair, hazel eyes, and very young. “Rae” was new. I hadn't seen her before. One of the more seasoned ladies said, “ “Rae” is our baby”. That made sense obviously she she was the least in age by several years. She chose the seat next to mine and that is when it became apparent, beneath the oversized striped scrubs there was the swell of a pregnant belly.
I knew the stripes “Rae” wore meant she had been sentenced to time in prison; twenty-two months to be exact. What would happen to this young mother and child? My chest grew tight but then I heard in my SPIRIT, “I AM: YAHWEH-JIREH [yah-way-ji-reh] (The Lord Will Provide; Genesis 22:14)” . The FATHER knew what was going through my mind, “How will this young woman make provisions for her son while in prison”?
The name YAHWEH-JIREH was memorialized by Abraham when God provided the ram to be sacrificed in place of his son, Isaac. You might ask, why In the world would GOD ask Abraham to sacrifice his son(Gen 22:2)? Especially, when HE had already promised to multiply Abraham's descendants through Isaac (Gen 21:12). Yet, Abraham did not hesitate. As a matter of fact he and Isaac set out the following morning.
Abraham's immediate obedience has been an example for thousands of years that we can trust GOD’s plan. We can depend on GOD’s sovereignty even when it seems confusing. Abraham's obedience exalts GOD’s character. God uses Abraham’s faith as an example of the type of faith required for salvation. Genesis 15:6 says, “Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” In Romans 9 Paul explains the reason GOD reckons HIS chosen people through Isaac is to further the point we do not become HIS children by mere birthright or nationality, but through our wholehearted belief that HE is Saviour. HE is the I AM. HE is what we should put our faith in for all of our needs. HE is the provision!
I got a letter from “Rae” the day that I started writing this. She told me that she had spoken to a social worker, who had been in contact with an attorney, etc that had given her a lot of helpful information. She was unsure what arrangements would be made for her son yet but she was feeling better about it. She also said, “I am reading the Bible and beginning to try to figure this whole praying thing out.” She went on to explain that for three nights in a row she had a bad feeling about her also pregnant sister who was traveling from California to Louisiana with her husband and daughter. She said she didn't know why she had the uneasy feeling but asked GOD over and over again to keep them safe as they traveled. She was able to call her mom one morning only to find out that her sister's husband had fallen asleep while driving and flipped their truck. However, none of them were seriously injured. She said, “I just find it weird I had it in my head something was going to happen. I feel GOD put it in my head so I could pray ahead of time for their safety. Although I don't understand I trust HE has a plan.” The Definition of provision according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary is: the fact or state of being prepared beforehand; a measure taken beforehand to deal with a need. GOD knows what we need! “Rae’s” sister needed her prayers and “Rae” needed to see GOD’s manifestation through her prayers. Talk about a faith builder...not just for “Rae” but for many others!
I don't know what will happen with “Rae’s” baby but I am confident the LORD will supply and more importantly “Rae” is beginning to see and trust.
If you are in a season of uncertainty let me suggest you look to YAHWEH-JIREH; THE PROVIDER!
“They sought GOD eagerly, and HE was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.” 2 Chronicles 15:15
